Sophie Kirchner was born in 1984 in Berlin, East Germany. In her personal work, she focuses on documenting social issues. In particular, she is very much interest in giving a voice to socially disadvantaged groups, and exploring taboo- subjects. Her work is part of the permanent collection at the Museum of Contemporary Photography in Chicago.

Kirchner studied photography at the University of Applied Sciences in Hamburg, Germany and the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, USA. She currently lives in Berlin.
